Privacy policy
Last updated Monday 5 October 2026
ClassCal reads the school WhatsApp groups you choose and turns them into an organised view of your family's week. That means we handle personal information about you, your children and the other people in your groups. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it and how you can have it deleted. If anything is unclear, write to privacy@atticusailab.com.
1. Who we are
ClassCal is run by Josh Unsdorfer, a licensed sole proprietor (osek murshe) registered in Israel, trading as Atticus AI Lab ("we", "us"). We decide how and why your information is processed, and we are responsible for it. Contact us at privacy@atticusailab.com for anything about your data, or contact@atticusailab.com for anything else.
2. What we collect
About you
- Your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored by our sign-in provider in scrambled (hashed) form; we never see them.
- Your settings, such as your timezone and when ClassCal switches to showing tomorrow.
About your children
- What you enter: their names, nicknames and other spellings, birth year, an optional photo, school hours and activities, and which groups belong to which child.
From the WhatsApp groups you choose
- The messages: their text, the sender's name and WhatsApp identifier, the time, replies and any photos or files.
- The group's name and its members' names, and whether a member is a teacher, staff or a parent.
From your other chats
- Only each chat's name and when it was last active, so you can choose which groups to connect. ClassCal never reads or stores the messages of chats you have not chosen.
What ClassCal creates
- Translations, tasks, notices, events, packing lists, summaries, alerts, a search index of your messages, and your conversations with Ask AI.
The helper on your computer
- The helper's name, operating system, version and connection status, and a connection key (stored scrambled).
How you use ClassCal
- Pages visited and actions taken in the app, so we can keep it working and improve it.
- On our website and in the app we use Google Analytics, which uses cookies to count visits and see which pages are used.
If you join the waitlist
- Your email address, the page you came from and your browser type.
If you write to us
- Your name (if you give it), your email address, what you write and the page you wrote from.
3. How we use it
- To provide ClassCal to you: translating messages, finding tasks, dates and things to bring, organising them by child, and answering your questions.
- To keep ClassCal secure, investigate problems and fix them.
- To improve the quality of what ClassCal finds and answers.
- To contact you about your invite, your account and important changes.
We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, share it with schools or other parents, or use it to train AI models. Under Israeli law and, where it applies, the GDPR, we process it to provide the service you asked for, for our legitimate interest in running and securing it, and to meet our legal obligations.
4. How AI is used
To translate messages, find what matters in them and answer your questions, ClassCal sends the relevant messages to an AI provider. Today that provider is OpenAI, in the United States. We may switch to or add Anthropic, also in the United States, and will update this policy if we do.
What is sent: the text of messages from the groups you chose and their translations, senders' names (a sender whose name is unknown is sent as a code such as "Member K4F2", never as a phone number), group names, your children's names and nicknames so the AI can tell who a message is about, and your questions to Ask AI. Your email address and password are never sent.
Messages are not anonymised, because names and details are what let ClassCal tell which child, date or payment a message is about. Any phone number written inside a message is sent as written. Under the AI providers' business terms, they do not use this data to train their models, and they may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse before deleting it.
5. Who else processes your information
We use these service providers to run ClassCal. Each processes information only on our instructions and under its own security and privacy commitments.
- Supabase: database, file storage and sign-in.
- Vercel: hosting of the website and app.
- OpenAI (and Anthropic, if we add it): AI processing, as described above.
- Google: website and app analytics.
- Telegram: delivers short alerts to our founder's phone when someone joins the waitlist, writes to us, opens an invite or connects WhatsApp. An alert contains the email address and, for a contact message, the message. It never contains the content of your WhatsApp groups.
ClassCal connects to WhatsApp through WhatsApp's linked-device feature, the same feature WhatsApp Web uses, so WhatsApp sees ClassCal as a device linked to your account. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
6. Where your information is stored
Our providers store and process information in the United States, the European Union and possibly other countries outside Israel. We rely on their contractual and technical safeguards to protect it wherever it is processed.
7. How long we keep it
- Photos and files from your groups: deleted automatically 90 days after the message they came with.
- Message text, and everything ClassCal created from it: kept while your account is open, so you can look back, and deleted when you ask us to delete your data.
- Tasks and notices you delete: kept for 30 days so you can undo, then removed.
- Waitlist entries and contact messages: kept until you ask us to delete them.
- After a deletion request: removed from our live systems straight away, and from routine backups as they are overwritten.
8. Deleting your data
Email privacy@atticusailab.com from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete your data. We delete your account, your messages, everything ClassCal created from them, your children's details and photos, and any waitlist entry or contact message, and confirm by email, normally within 7 days and always within 30.
You can also stop ClassCal reading at any time: switch a group off in Settings, or open WhatsApp, go to Linked devices and remove ClassCal. To remove the helper from your computer, use "Remove the helper" in Settings, Connect WhatsApp, or ask us.
9. Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy in a common format, or object to how we use it. Email privacy@atticusailab.com and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to Israel's Privacy Protection Authority or, if you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, to your local data protection authority.
10. Security
- Information is encrypted in transit.
- Each family's data is kept in its own private account, and the database refuses access to it from any other account.
- Photos and files are stored privately and shown only through links that expire after a short time.
- Day to day, nobody reads your messages. When investigating a problem or the quality of answers, the founder can open your Ask AI conversations, and every time that happens it is recorded.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Children
ClassCal is for parents and guardians aged 18 or over. Children do not use it. Information about children is provided by their parent or guardian and used only to organise that family's school information.
12. Other people in your groups
The groups you connect contain messages from other parents, teachers and staff. ClassCal processes them only to provide the service to you. It never posts in the group, contacts anyone in it, or shows their messages to anyone but you. Only connect groups you are a member of. If you are in a group a ClassCal user connected and want your information removed, write to privacy@atticusailab.com.
13. Cookies
ClassCal uses cookies that are needed to keep you signed in, and Google Analytics cookies to measure visits. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the sign-in cookies stops you signing in; blocking analytics cookies does not affect how ClassCal works.
14. Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page with a new date. If a change matters to how your information is used, we will email account holders before it takes effect.
15. Contact
